A Stellar Year for English Teacher English Teacher has been on an impressive trajectory, gaining widespread recognition following the release of their Mercury Prize-winning debut album, This Might Be Texas, in April 2024. The record received critical acclaim, earning a five-star review from NME and securing the Number Three spot on their prestigious ’50 Best Albums of 2024′ list. Additionally, their track Albert Road was ranked as the sixth-best song of the year.
Their rapid rise continued last month when the band landed the Number Five spot on the BBC Sound Of 2025 poll, further cementing their status as one of the UK’s most promising new acts.
New Music and Future Plans In a 2023 interview with NME, guitarist Lewis Whiting emphasized the band’s commitment to musical evolution, stating that they did not “want to sit within one sound” and had “a point to prove” with their evolving style. Following their Mercury Prize win, English Teacher hinted at new material in the works, promising fans a fresh sonic experience. Bassist Nicholas Eden described an upcoming track as “an amalgamation of every single track on this [first] album,” while the band debuted a new song titled Billboards during their 2024 tour.
Beyond their headline tour, English Teacher is set to perform as an opening act for Fontaines D.C. in Manchester, take the stage at Bearded Theory in Derbyshire, and make an appearance at Wide Awake Festival in London.
