Morrissey’s Tribute to Marianne Faithfull
In addition to the tour announcement, Morrissey recently paid tribute to the late Marianne Faithfull, recalling her impact on his early music journey. Sharing his thoughts on social media, he referenced her 1965 hit Come And Stay With Me, calling it “my very first purchased disc.” He reminisced about later meeting her and hearing her rendition of Dear God, Please Help Me, which she recorded at the suggestion of Lou Reed. “Her music brought us all closer … the girl to whom everything happened,” he wrote.
Music Industry Criticism and Unreleased Album
Morrissey has also continued to voice his concerns about the current state of the music industry, claiming that a “war on free speech” has prevented him from releasing new material. His album Bonfire of the Teenagers, recorded in 2021, remains unreleased, which he attributes to industry hesitations. Describing the album as “the modern version of The Queen Is Dead,” he criticized record labels for their reluctance, stating, “The fact that no label will release it is an indication of how childlike and frightened the music industry has become.”
Disputes with Johnny Marr and The Smiths’ Legacy
Morrissey has also been involved in an ongoing dispute with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. In August, he accused Marr of ignoring a lucrative offer from AEG Entertainment Group for a Smiths reunion. He also alleged that a Greatest Hits album from the band had been blocked by Marr.
Further complicating matters, Morrissey later claimed that Marr now holds exclusive rights to The Smiths’ trademark and intellectual property, potentially allowing him to tour under the band’s name without Morrissey’s involvement.
For fans eager to see Morrissey live, tickets for his 2025 tour can be secured through Ticketmaster and authorized vendors.
