Newtopia follows Lee Jae-yoon (Park Jeong-min), a military conscript who is navigating the aftermath of a breakup with his college girlfriend, Kang Young-joo (Jisoo). However, their personal struggles take a backseat when a sudden zombie outbreak engulfs Seoul, forcing them to survive together while rekindling their romantic connection.

Park described the series as a “zombie romantic comedy” or a “zom-com,” emphasizing its light-hearted yet thrilling approach. “It’s more adorable, humorous, and light-hearted than most zombie dramas. That uniqueness was what made me want to be part of this project,” he said.

On-Screen Chemistry with Jisoo

The actor also praised his co-star Jisoo, highlighting their instant connection and how it contributed to making the romance aspect of the series more authentic. “From the very first moment, the chemistry between us was great, and it was easy to form a close bond,” Park shared. He further described Jisoo as “a wonderful person who never shows any signs of negativity.”

He credited Jisoo’s positive attitude and professionalism for helping him stay emotionally engaged with his character throughout the filming process. “Thanks to her, portraying her romantic partner in the series felt natural and enjoyable,” he added.
